Dear brothers,
Peace and good in the Risen Lord!
The 19th General Chapter decided to take up Integral Ecology as a fundamental axis of our mission that connects the pastoral, liturgical, formation, social, economic, political and environmental dimensions (AC 2022, 30).
In particular, he then made a commitment to adhere to the Laudato Si’ Platform of initiatives (Laudato Si’ Action Platform – LSAP) promoted by the Holy See’s dicastery for the Service of Integral Human Development at the various levels (Communities, Circumscriptions, Institute) (AC 2022, 30.1)
This commitment is a great opportunity for our missionary activity, as it invites us to relaunch our evangelization service in response to the signs of the times, interpreted in the light of the Gospel and with the help of the recent magisterium of the Church. The signs of the times, in fact, refer to God’s action in relation to the coming of his Kingdom expressed in history. From the missionary point of view, this is a fundamental passage, since «To evangelize is to make the kingdom of God present in our world» (EG 176). We want to emphasize that this effort is part of the larger framework of the re-qualifying our missionary service, in response to the invitation received by the 19th General Chapter to “go beyond,” putting pastoral passion for evangelization back at the center.
Therefore, the General Council decided to join the Laudato si’ Platform of Initiatives (LSAP) as an Institute (AC 2022, 30.1) and refers to the General Secretariat of Mission (SGM) to execute the decision.
In this current year 2025 we celebrate the Jubilee of Hope. The biblical perspective of the jubilee emphasizes the meaning of restorative justice and of shalom: the forgiveness of debts, the restitution of land, the liberation of slaves, and the resting of the earth are concrete responses to the cry of the poor and the cry of the earth (Lev 25:10ff), then as well as now. There is a close relationship between the Laudato si’ goals – which define the horizon of conversion to integral ecology and commitment to LSAP – and the reality of the Jubilee. What better time, then, to join the Laudato si’ Platform of Initiatives?
The General Council, therefore, takes this opportunity to invite all communities and circumscriptions of the Institute to join the LSAP in compliance with chapter commitments. The SGM will send a circular letter with useful information about the Platform, how to join and carry out the commitment.
Thank you once again for your missionary efforts in the spirit of St. Daniel Comboni. May our Founder intercede for us so that we may live the joy of the Gospel and communicate it with enthusiasm.
In faith,
The General Council
